"We Dance Because" is the story of a woman with a passion for dance who loses her way, then finds life-changing healing, connection, renewal and inspiration in re-connecting with African Dance.
This original African dance theatrical work by Tamika Harris, founder of "Afrika We Dance" will premiere during Women's History Month at Ashkenaz Music & Dance Community Center in Berkeley, CA.
Written, directed, and choreographed by dancer/choreographer Tamika Harris, who lived the story and experienced the healing power of dance. Tamika has danced with the most notable Bay Area African dance companies such as: Fua Dia Congo, Ceddo, Bantaba & Diamano Coura. She is a part of a network of key community figures that are noted for great Community works and memorable productions.
Through her lived story, years of immersion in African dance, expert mentorship and cultural network, the time is right for Tamika Harris to tell her story through an amazing and memorable showcase of dance and the power of ancestry.
