Mr. Hat Presents Grateful Wednesday at Ashkenaz, featuring a very special edition of Scott Guberman & Friends featuring Reed Mathis, Katie Skene & Danny Leuhring, with a participatory dance warm-up by Embodied Groove.
Scott Guberman performs regularly with Grateful Dead's founding bassist, Phil Lesh.
Scott Guberman has become an outstandingly important member of the Bay Area music scene in between his shows with Phil Lesh, appearing most often at Terrapin Crossroads. In addition to this, Guberman can be found touring the national circuit joining up with just about every professional level Grateful Dead project out there.
Scott Guberman’s history finds him breaking into the Grateful Dead scene at the turn of the millennium. He first gained recognition as a Hammond organist performing heavily with Rock & Roll Hall of Famer and former Grateful Dead keyboardist, Tom Constanten; and touring with Grateful Dead’s final keyboardist, Vince Welnick.
Embodied Groove's Dr. Leah Ferree Taylor and members of the band will present a facilitated collaborative movement/dance/live music session to start the show, followed by two full sets of Grateful Dead Favorites.
Embodied Groove is a live music movement experience designed to enhance free, euphoric joy through live music. Participants will feel more connected to themselves, other fans, and the music, with good vibes flowing all around!
The main premise behind EG and the inspiration for the name is that music emits sound waves that the audience can feel and then embody through movement. As an audience moving to the music, we are an embodiment of the groove being created. Sometimes this happens naturally, for example to the music of the Grateful Dead or at a Phish concert. But sometimes people need guidance and permission to express themselves freely in response to live music.
