School of Rock, a leader in performance-based music education, announces the grand opening of its newest school in the Berkeley, California community. The grand opening event will take place at 1313 Gilman Street in Berkeley from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, November 16th. Along with a ceremonial guitar smashing (School of Rock’s version of a ribbon-cutting), it will be an afternoon filled with live music performances from regional School of Rock House Bands, a guitar giveaway, program discounts and more.
School of Rock Berkeley is owned and operated by local gigging musicians Rachel Sager and Tony Sales. Tony plays with a group called Ardent Sons, who recently released their debut record. When he isn’t playing with Ardent Sons, he tours with legendary San Francisco rock and rollers Flamin’ Groovies. Rachel plays guitar and sings in an all-girl rock and roll band called Harriot. She has also been involved with School of Rock since 2005, opening the first Bay Area location in San Francisco, in addition to organizing and managing the first ever West Coast AllStars Tour.
“In a world that increasingly values screen time, we wanted to create an intentional place where kids and adults can connect and create through music,” said Rachel Sager. “School of Rock lets us do that, while also allowing Tony and I to share our passion for music with our ever-growing community of friends and musicians. We look forward to serving our community through School of Rock Berkeley.”
School of Rock provides students of all ages an exciting and engaging music lesson experience, which includes guitar lessons, singing lessons, drum lessons and piano lessons. Drawing from all styles of rock and roll, School of Rock students learn theory and techniques via songs from legendary artists such as Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and Frank Zappa. Thanks to the school’s performance-based approach, students around the world have gained superior musical proficiency, with some moving on to record deals and larger platforms such as American Idol, The Voice and Broadway.
“Both Rachel and Tony have a strong appreciation for music education, and they are passionate about teaching students through rock n’ roll,” said Rob Price, CEO of School of Rock. “I’m confident they will be excellent leaders for the new School of Rock location in Berkeley.”
