Drum Sundays are drumming workshops presented on the first Sunday of every month by one of our FANTASTIC MAESTRA DRUMMERS from Born To Drum.
Open to ALL LEVELS.
Some drums will be available for loan on first come, first serve basis.
In this Drum Sunday workshop, Sue Kaye will be teaching both Congolese and Cuban drum songs. She will also go over some practical technique and show some exercises to help people improve their sound on the drum. Students can bring congas, ngomas, ashikos, djembes, bells, shekeres, sticks, your voices and be ready to have a funky good time!!
About Sue Kaye
Sue "Suki" Kaye has been studying, teaching and performing African and Caribbean styles of drumming for 42 years. She is from New York and that is where she began her journey with the drum. She has played with many bands including Azucar con Ache, Rita Lackey and Friends, Liquid Girlfriend, Jazzi Jan and more! Suki has a strong background in Congolese, Afro-Cuban, and other Caribbean rhythms. She has also been a dance accompanist, drum teacher, and an elementary and preschool teacher. She currently plays with Taller Bombalele, a local Afro-Puerto Rican folkloric dance and music ensemble, and a Latin jazz ensemble called Key Elements (www.keyelementslatinjazz.com).
