Bay Area comedian and comedy producer, Lisa Geduldig (of Kung Pao Kosher Comedy™), and Ashkenaz Music & Dance Community Center joined forces in 2017 to bring the East Bay a new monthly (the second Thursday of the month) comedy series, Comedy at Ashkenaz!
Last Fall, we celebrated our one-year anniversary. Since launching the show, we have commemorated Black History Month, International Women’s Day/Women’s History Month, and Gay Pride; we had a political comedy night; and we raised funds for three organizations and causes (the Redwood Empire Food Bank which provided food to shelters in Sonoma County for residents displaced by the North Bay fires, RAICES: The Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services, and Alameda County Community Food Bank).
The next show Comedy at Ashkenaz! Women’s History Month Comedy takes place on Thursday, March 14 and features a diverse line up of (African American, Indian American, Caucasian, Jewish, disabled, LGBT, physician-by-day…) comedians: Carla Clayy, Priyanka Wali, Jade Theriault, Lisa Geduldig.

Just Another Disabled Entertainer (J.A.D.E.) is a cyborg who combines provocative thought with moving furniture. They performed at SF Sketchfest, The Punchline, Cobbs Comedy Club and is a regular at Delirium’s weekly show “#triviaLOL.” In the last few months, J.A.D.E. had the pleasure of traveling south to perform at the “Westside Comedy Festival” in Santa Monica, where they won Best Joke of the Night. J.A.D.E. also starred in a series of short films produced by D. Jun Kosmos Films and was on an episode of MTV Decoded. Most recently, they were featured in Malic Almaya’s “RUN!” (2018), an anti-war film that comments on the issue of transgender inclusion in the military. Jade Theriault conceived of J.A.D.E. in a sweaty high school piano closet, anticipating a ride home on a smaller yellow bus. This led to an 8-year exploration of comedy, visual art, music, and feelings. When not anxious, Jade thinks about the future of Artificial Intelligence.
