Today we focus on the classical Kathak dance tradition of North India, presented The Chhandam School of Kathak. The school is the educational arm of the world-famous Chitresh Das Dance Company, and features both professional and student dancers in costume. The class academy is dedicated to deep cultural education through the Kathak tradition. Founded in Northern California in 1980, it is the largest classical Indian dance institution in North America. In addition, it has major affiliate centers run by Pandit Das’ disciples in India, Boston, Los Angeles and Toronto. 

Join us for an evening of kathak (classical dance of North India) with advanced students and teachers of the Chhandam School of Kathak.  Experience rhythmic footwork, swift pirouettes, and ornate movement with dynamic expression and storytelling accompanied by live music.

Founded by legendary kathak master Pandit Chitresh Das and succeeded by his senior disciples, Seibi Lee, Rachna Nivas, and Rina Mehta, the Chhandam School of Kathak has been a pioneer of excellence for the education, promotion, and advancement of kathak dance and Indian classical music for 38 years. In the Bay Area, the school offers classes in Fremont and Berkeley with affiliate schools in Los Angeles, Denver, Boston, New York, and Mumbai.
