Marin County's popular band Talley Up! will bring their unique New Orleans funk sound to Berkeley on Friday, April 19th.
The band will be serving up the hot musical gumbo dubbed "Swampedelic" at Ashkenaz Music and Dance Community Center, with explosive improvisation as they explore the music of the Meters, the Neville Brothers, Dr. John, Dumpstaphunk, Allen Toussaint, Jon Cleary, Little Feat, the Jerry Garcia Band, and Talley Up!'s own spicy originals.
Talley Up! appears regularly throughout Marin and Sonoma counties and in San Francisco; has played many times at Sweetwater Music Hall and Terrapin Crossroads; opened for Moonalice and for Kermit Ruffins; and, in 2017, performed at both the High Sierra Music Festival and the For the Funk of It Festival.
Their first CD, "Funky Alchemy," was featured on the High Sierra radio station that year, and was played between sets at HSMF's Vaudeville Stage.
Some of the finest musicians in the Bay Area will be in a special lineup for the Talley Up! show at Ashkenaz:
Jim Talley (Eric McFadden, Karl Denson, Stu Allen) -- keyboards and vocals; Tom Finch (Big Brother & the Holding Co., Karl Denson, Pamela Parker) -- guitar and vocals, and Michael Pinkham (New Monsoon, PSDSP, Scott Law) -- drums; with Aaron Saul (George Clinton, Soul Ska, Vinyl) -- regular Talley Up! guest, alto sax; and Rob Fordyce (Michael LaMacchia) -- filling in for Talley Up! bandmember Jen Rund, bass.
