Hailing from Humboldt County, Irie Rockers is a band rooted in reggae, whose members create their own style as they mix R&B, rock, funk and electronica into each song. Irie Rockers was launched in 2015 by producers-songwriters Stevie Culture and Brody Forester, who wanted to create music sharing the ideals of divine love, peace and unity set to infectious dance rhythms. With Culture on lead vocals and drums, Forester on guitar and vocals, the band is rounded out by lead and rhythm guitarist Brian Sykes, bass guitarist Cyrus Weisman and singer April Mae.
Oakland’s Calafia Armada was formed in 2016 to use a wide range of American and Caribbean rhythms to tell the story of California and its first and only queen: Calafia. It’s a great story told with irresistible dance beats. The group’s original music incorporates a range of traditional rhythms and melodies from across the Americas including jarocho, puya, rumba, and most of all Colombian folk rhythms, cumbia. Calafia Armada features a lineup where everyone sings: Jules Hilson (congas, percussion), Yousef Al-Shomaimri (bass), Jose Lopez (tambora, percussion), Diana Marcela (percussion), Angel Rodriguez (guitar), Michaël Veremans (guira, percussion), Lea Wiggington, Jeff Giaquinto (trombone) and Andre Snyder (trumpet).
