This comedy show is now a BENEFIT for fire victims.

100% of the proceeds from ticket sales will go to Redwood Empire Food Bank (REFB).

REFB has been working around the clock to determine the most effective response to the devastating fires throughout Sonoma County. They have been asked to provide critical food to shelters throughout Sonoma County for the neighbors displaced by these fires. Truckloads of food have already gone out to various evacuation centers. In addition, they are working to ensure that those who needed food assistance before the fires are still able to access our help. http://www.refb.org/

If you’d like, you can ALSO bring material donations (toiletries, canned goods, clothing…) to the comedy show. Ashkenaz will transport donations up there this weekend.

Bay Area comedian and comedy producer, Lisa Geduldig (of Kung Pao Kosher Comedy fame) and Ashkenaz Music & Dance Community Center are launching a new monthly comedy series Comedy at Ashkenaz! that will take place on the second Thursday of the month starting in October.

Geduldig tested the Ashkenaz comedy waters in June with a Gay Pride Comedy Night, and a packed house turned out so they’ve decided to collaborate and bring the East Bay this monthly show. We need laughter now, more than ever!

Each month will feature a different theme and line up of comedians. The series kicks off on October 12 with “A Political Comedy Night” featuring New York’s premiere political comedian, Scott Blakeman, and Bay Area comedians, Yayne Abeba, Aundré the Wonderwoman, and Lisa Geduldig.

Scott Blakeman, New York’s premiere political comedian, has performed his contemporary Jewish and political humor around the world including the Montreal Just For Laughs Festival, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the Jewish Historical Museum in Amsterdam, and Kung Pao Kosher Comedy in San Francisco. He is an original member of Laughing Liberally, New York's longest running political comedy show, was featured on MSNBC's live coverage of the 2016 White House Correspondents Dinner, and has made several appearances on CNN, MSNBC and Fox News. He tours with Palestinian Muslim-American comedian, Dean Obeidallah, in Stand Up for Peace and recently performed his one-man show Liberal Jew at the Grange Hall on Martha's Vineyard and the Town Hall in Lenox, Massachusetts. Scott co-hosted with Keith Olbermann, a celebration of James Thurber at the 92nd St Y, where he has also interviewed Robert Klein, Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara and Lewis Black.  Click HERE to see Scott perform at The Left Forum.

Yayne.jpg

Yayne Abeba is a San Francisco native, comedian, and activist. Her comedy makes you sit up straight in your chair and listen because she's got something to say. Yayne excels in the way she rolls jokes off that edge of comfort and finesses it with a tell it like it is teflon charm. Color her smart and powerful! Growing up in the diverse world of the Haight Ashbury, she gives us glimpses at different cultures: Ethiopian, American, and millennials.

AundreTheWonderwoman.jpg

Aundré the Wonderwoman has garnered a reputation as a solid talent dishing up content-based comedy ranging from the ridiculous to the sublime. This anti-death penalty lawyer by day/comedian by night is a keen observer of human behavior who will have you laughing at everything from disability to the politics of the day. Her credits include The Funniest Woman in Half Moon Bay, Oakland’s Funniest Comic on the Strip, and Winner of the Inaugural Russian River Comedy Competition. She was a semi-finalist in the 2005 San Francisco International Comedy Competition and in 2008 received the Stand Up For Justice Award for her work against the death penalty.

Lisa Geduldig is a local comedian and comedy producer who’s the creator, producer, and MC of a variety of comedy shows including Kung Pao Kosher Comedy: Jewish comedy on Christmas in a Chinese Restaurant (celebrating its 25th Anniversary this December 23-25!); Comedy Returns to El Rio! (which just celebrated its 8th Anniversary); Funny Girlz: A Smorgasbord of Women Comedians; The Color of Funny: A Multi-Cultural Comedy Show; and A Muslim, A Mormon, and A Jew Walk into A Bar: The Comedy of Religion.
