“The Post-Holiday Family Happy Hour” is a first for Ashkenaz, but jazz singer and educator Kyra Gordon has long been gathering young and old together to enjoy the pleasure of group singing, and today she leads our free event. Gordon delivers a mix of jazz, blues, and original songs to warm up your afternoon! Bring the whole family down. Sing-alongs will be included.
Kyra Gordon was the first vocalist to graduate from Berkeley’s California Jazz Conservatory with a Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Vocal Performance. She was also awarded the Mark Murphy Vocal scholarship. As a part of her degree she taught a teen vocal class at the Jazzschool. Now she is in charge of the teen vocal program at the Jazzschool and also teaches for the East Bay Center for the Performing Arts in Richmond. She has sung with an array of musicians and on film soundtracks. Gordon explains, “I love working with young people by helping them bring out their unique voices while in a supportive atmosphere. I have been profoundly affected by my experiences teaching, and look forward to continuing to grow and learn.”
